The committee stage needs a record
Bill 208 was referred to the Standing Committee on Alberta Economic Future on April 20, 2026, and the committee page now shows that the submission deadline has passed, according to the official committee page. That makes the next public record more important, not less important.
The autonomy problem
Adult autonomy is not a slogan. It is a test of whether a rule is targeted, measurable, and fair to lawful adults while still protecting youth. A policy that cannot separate legal retail from illegal supply risks punishing the channel that can be inspected.
Three items to ask for
- A source-of-access summary for youth possession.
- Retail inspection results by type of outlet.
- A post-implementation review date before any new product restriction takes effect.
